Bay City is home to one of a handful of public disc golf courses on the Oregon coast, thanks to the efforts of residents Mark and Dee Harguth, who also own and operate the Sheltered Nook bed and breakfast and Sheltered Nook Tiny Cabins in the small city at the southeast edge of Tillamook Bay.
In the spring of 2015, the Harguths broke ground on The Meadow, a nine-hole course, located within walking distance of the popular 200-acre Kilchis Point Reserve. The course features short, technical holes among trees as well as wide-open shots in the namesake meadow, which is landscaped with sword ferns, salal and other native plants. The owners plan to built a pro shop with discs for sale or rent and to have the course PDGA certified.
Bay City also offers art and cultural activities and exhibits at the nonprofit Bay City Arts Center and an outlet for Tillamook Country Smoker jerky products.
Local dining options include fresh seafood at The Fish Peddler, which is located on the bay, west of U.S. Highway 101, The Landing, which sells burgers and other diner food items at its restaurant and lounge, and Fresh, LLC, which offers smoothies, wheatgrass shots, espresso and a rotating menu of seasonal dishes.
