Lichen Hike at Nedonna Marsh
April 6 @ 12:00 pm - 3:30 pmfree
If you are fascinated by lichen, join us for this hands-on hike as we feel the textures, admire the colors and discuss the variety of important roles that lichen play here in Tillamook County. Lichens come in many colors, sizes, and forms, and it is estimated that 6% of Earth’s land surface is covered by lichen.
But this symbiotic relationship of fungi, algae and other organisms is more than just a collage of pretty colors and textures; it’s a valuable indicator of an area’s air quality, nitrogen supply and ecological integrity.
Participants should bring water and snacks and wear comfortable shoes. The hike is easy to moderate, and those interested in a self-directed study can bring a notebook and pencils or pens, as well as collection bags and a hand lens if you have one.
This event is part of the Explore Nature Series and is co-hosted by the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum. SPACE IS LIMITED.
