New restroom shower building Nehalem Bay State Park west viewNehelam Bay State Park offers a full-service campground with RV/tent sites (including water and electric hookups); yurts for a “glamping” style stay; a hiker/biker camp; and a dedicated equestrian camp with corrals, picnic tables and fire rings, and trails designated for horse riding.
In addition, there are two day-use areas, one with access to the bay and the other to the ocean, each with picnic tables, fire rings and restrooms. You’ll also find an on-site boat ramp on the bay side and a unique fly-in campsite accessible from the adjacent airstrip.

  • Beachcombing, kite-flying and simply enjoying the wide sandy spit. The park’s mix of beach and bay frontage makes it easy to shift from surf views to sheltered bay waters.
  • Kayaking, fishing, clamming and crabbing. The bay provides calm water access; the boat ramp makes launching easier.
  • Hiking and biking. The paved bike trail plus sandy paths along the spit offer varying levels of challenge. A roughly 1.8-mile paved loop through the forest along the bay, plus sandy paths along the spit offer varying levels of challenge.
  • Equestrian riding on the beach and inland trails. If you bring your own horse (or rent), the horse camp and beach-ride options open up a unique way to explore.
  • Wildlife viewing. You can often spot shore birds, elk, deer and other coastal species.
  • Camping under the stars. Whether you choose a classic campsite, a yurt, horse-camp or even a fly-in site, the setting is memorable.

The charming town of Manzanita sits just to the north and is great for dining, art galleries, boutique shopping and local events. The nearby bay area around the village of Nehalem features waterfront views, a laid-back vibe and rental options for kayaks or motorboats. Or for a change of page, head a little further south to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and other Tillamook County attractions for yummy treats and local history.

  • Book early for peak summer camping: the park fills up fast.
  • Check for any facility closures or upgrades in advance.
  • Bring suitable gear for a variety of conditions: the beach may be windy, the bay calm; sand hiking can be more tiring than paved paths.
  • If you’ll be clamming or crabbing, check current regulations and seasons.
