Summer
It’s summer in Tillamook County, and everyone has their eyes focused on the Tillamook County Fair. Voted one of the ten best small-town fairs in the country, this is a “don’t miss”! One of its most unusual events, the “Pig-N-Ford Races”, found itself on the cover of the Wall Street Journal. This almost indescribable event is a hit with all age groups. In a nutshell (or rather the shell of a doorless Ford Model T), grown men race with live pigs around the horse track to the glee of shouting rabble rousers. The fair offers horse racing with three-dollar bets, rides for kids of all ages, a crack-‘em-up demolition derby, and excellent “fair cuisine”. There is always entertainment on center stage, and lots of local prizewinning animals and flowers. See you there at the Tillamook County Fair!
The Tillamook Farmers Market offers art made by local artisans, locally grown vegetables and fruit, live entertainment and precious handmade gifts.
And don’t miss Independence Day at the Coast! Celebrate July 4th at Rockaway Beach, with their annual festival and fireworks.
Tillamook, named by a Salish tribe as “the land of many waters,” offers visitors a plethora of water based summer activities, including kayaking, rafting, fishing, crabbing and clamming. The trails of Tillamook County make way for hiking, cycling and horseback riding. The beaches here are less crowded and more pristine, the views unmarred and the habitat exemplary.
Come to Tillamook County in the summer, and see what everyone is raving about!
